Cheryl and her trishaw Gertrude offer rides all across Marin County. As an Individual Chapter, she is the sole pilot. While she initially had planned on training more pilots, she has realized that her heart is really in offering as many rides as she can on her own.
Here is an example of a typical trishaw ride:
1 Trishaw
1 Core Pilot
60 Rides per year
$850 Annual Budget
Ole’s TED talk kept coming up in her research on bike commuting, got her hooked.
Bought her first trishaw with funds she inherited from her father when he passed.
Initially tried to train pilots locally.
Realized she would rather focus on giving rides.
Loans Gertrude the trishaw out from Bend to Sacramento to inspire others to start chapters
All funded directly by Cheryl’s time and resources
Offers rides through several senior homes and a group that houses homeless
Local ebike shop helps with maintenance
Transports her trishaw in her truck, loading with motorcycle ramps
Cheryl gets a ride request from one of her community partners, or an individual senior who lives independently.
She pedals from her house, or loads Gertrude in the truck.
Once her riding partner is on board, she pedals the many multi-use paths and parks that lie at the foot of Mount Tam.
Brings Gertrude to senior free lunches and offers rides
During the holidays, brings seniors out to see the best lights in the community
Has loaded up Gertrude and a riding partner and driven her truck out to ride locations that have a special meaning for that riding partner
The senior homes and senior homeless organization reach out to book her for set time periods, and then sign up residents for rides themselves.
Seniors in the community who know her and live independently can reach out via phone or email to set up a ride.
